Child Marriage Free World
Child Marriage Free World (CMFW) is a global initiative of Just Rights for Children (JRC), launched in 2024 and formally introduced at the United Nations General Assembly in 2025.
The initiative builds on a proven model that began in India. What started in 2021 as community-led pledging events evolved into Child Marriage Free India (CMFI) — a nationwide grassroots campaign that has mobilised village leaders, women activists, and youth to take collective action against child marriage.
This momentum culminated on November 27, 2024, when the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India launched the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign, marking a significant national commitment to ending child marriage.
Building on this success, Child Marriage Free World has organised activities in over forty countries, particularly across Africa and South Asia. This initiative works community by community, partnering with individuals, youth-led groups, schools, colleges, grassroots organisations, civil society networks, faith leaders, and governments to address the root causes of child marriage.
CMFW supports partners in organising awareness and mobilisation efforts with children and young people, while also strengthening institutional responses through strategic collaboration with governments.
Since the launch, the initiative has led impactful global actions, including the Global Interfaith Weekend, and is currently driving the #100DaysofAction campaign, which will culminate at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70).
Through the strategic use of legal frameworks and strengthened community action, the CMFW initiative aims to drive systematic change to end child marriage worldwide by 2030.
