In the first six months of the current phase of the program, partners have already delivered impressive results across child protection.
A new aspect of the program’s work on child marriage has seen partners ensure the creation of marriage registers at the village level. All marriages in India must be registered, and in 2022 Gram Panchayats (village councils) were given the authority to become marriage registrars. By ensuring that marriages can be registered more easily, particularly in areas where child marriage is prevalent, it should become harder for child marriages to be arranged and act as a deterrent.
The following interim results have been submitted by partners and internally verified, and will be audited at the end of the program year (in March 2025).
17,449 TRAFFICKED CHILDREN RESCUED | 41,172 CHILD MARRIAGES PREVENTED |
9,968 TRAFFICKING PROSECUTIONS LAUNCHED | 9,575 MARRIAGE REGISTERS CREATED |
